Music Theatre Drama

Students in the Music Theatre Drama course will explore the pillars of music theatre by studying acting, movement, voice, and performance. Each grade will focus on different techniques, explore design and production, and star in a musical production as the culminating project.

Music Theatre Voice

Students in the Music Theatre Voice course will explore musicality within choral singing, solo singing, theory, and performance. They will be inspired to create, write, and perform works with confidence and intelligent musical interpretation.

Even if students have already taken Drama, Music, or Dance at their current high school, they are still eligible to gain additional arts credits with IADA.

All IADA course are tailored specifically to musical theatre.

 

Music Theatre Majors

For students who are committed to intensive music theatre training

We recommend that students apply to become Music Theatre Majors in order to achieve 2 credits per year (Music Theatre Drama and Voice). Musical Theatre Majors receive reduced pricing.

Undeclared
Students

For students who are looking to fulfill their mandatory arts credit

Students are invited to apply as an undeclared single credit student and register for individual courses. Students can choose to study Music Theatre Drama or Voice, and will still participate in the musical as undeclared IADA students.

Class Schedules

IADA offers evening classes that complement students’ academic studies with their main school. Our courses run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. A Musical Theatre Major sample timetable is outlined below:

Reach ahead.

 

Students in grade 8 are invited to take our Grade 9 Music Theatre course as a part of the Reach Ahead program, which allows students the opportunity to gain high school credits at IADA, before entering high school.

The Musical

Your Final Performance.

All Drama and Voice Students will perform in a musical production for their final culminating grade.

 

Audition.

 

Students will be taught the audition piece(s) during class at the beginning of the school year. Auditions will be held during the third and fourth week of classes, and roles will be announced in October.

 

Rehearse.

 

During weekly rehearsals, students will work on choral music, solo voice, choreography, blocking, scene work, and character development to build the final performance.

 

Perform.

 

The final performance will be a live stage production in collaboration with Innovative Arts. Students will put on two shows at the theatre with their castmates.
